Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH Pheromone Repellent for Douglas-fir and Spruce Beetles

Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH is an effective management tool for certain bark beetles on various tree species. Methlycyclohexenone (MCH) is an anti-aggregation pheromone that when applied in the Micro-Flake form can protect susceptible host trees from infestation by Douglas-fir beetle (Dendroctonus pseudotsugae).

Tree species include but are not limited to Douglas fir, Engelmann spruce, and other spruce tree species.

Tree Stands: Apply Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH prior to beetle flight at the rate of 2.4 kg of product (300 gm active ingredient) per acre or 6.0 kg of product (750 gm a.i.) per hectare with one application per beetle flight. Two applications are necessary if trap catches and visual assessment indicate the beetle flight has continued beyond two months since the first flake application.

Use in areas such as forests, tree plantations, and nurseries; residential, municipal, and shade tree areas; recreational areas such as campgrounds, golf courses, parks and parkways, and ornamental tree plantings; shelter belts and rights of way and other easements.

METHOD OF APPLICATION: Apply Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH on large plots of at least 10 acres or more with treated buffers to avoid edge effects. Monitor for infestations using the Lindgren Funnel Trap and appropriate beetle attractants and by visual inspection.

Apply Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH using ground or aerial equipment. Ground Equipment: Hand-held fertilizer spreaders can be used for ground application of Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH on small isolated wood lots. Aerial Equipment: Fertilizer spreaders appropriate for use on fixed wing aircraft or helicopters can be used to apply Disrupt Micro-Flake MCH on large areas. Do not allow drift from application site to contact non-target crops.

Disrupt Micro–Flake MCH Features:

  • Much more tamper and theft resistant than traditional MCH bubble caps.
  • Ideal for use to protect venerable trees at schools, in public parks, along sidewalks and areas with a large volume of public and pedestrian traffic.
  • Rapid and easy product application.
  • Provides virtually the same level of tree and stand protection as traditional MCH bubble caps.
